Hoboken Man Almost Gets Shot Over a Bottle of Corona

While police thought a man was hiding a gun, it was actually a bottle of Corona.

It was unclear what Larone Ferguson was hiding under his coat early Saturday morning, as he was surrounded by police asking him to show his hands.

After resisting arrest, the arrival of multiple police radio cars and almost being shot, he did finally show his hands to reveal a bottle of Corona, According to the police report on the matter. 

Around 3 a.m. on Saturday, police were patrolling the area of the Hoboken Housing Authority and heard a loud noise that sounded like a gun shot, police said. According to a police report the sound made car alarms go off in the area. As the officers arrived in front of 320 Harrison St., they saw two men coming from the same area.

Police announced themselves and told the two men to stop, according to the report.

One man immediately placed his hands on a nearby car, police said. Police searched the man but didn't find any weapons.

The other man, Ferguson, allegedly told the cops "you will have to shoot me. F*** you, I'm not showing you my hands, you will need the whole department to bring me down," according to the police report.

Ferguson, 32, continued to scream, police said, waking people up. A large crowd formed, police said also. "This later led to a large crowd of spectators who were egging on the situation causing the atmosphere to become hostile," the police report stated.

As more radio cars began to arrive to control the crowd, police said, Ferguson was arrested with the help of wrist locks. In his hand, hiding under his jacket, police said, was a bottle of Corona. After being patted down, police didn't find a gun on him, according to the police reports.

Ferguson was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and defiant tresspassing in the Housing Authority, according to the report.

Police searched the area but no guns were found, according to the report.
