Relay For Life Happening All Day Saturday at Pier A Park
The annual American Cancer Society event will be held from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Hoboken's ninth annual Relay For Life is taking place Saturday, May 21, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Pier A Park. As of Friday, 532 participants had signed up, and $124,000 had been raised or pledged (including a at the Chandelier Room, attended by Mrs. New Jersey) to the American Cancer Society for cancer research.
Participants enter in teams, and at least one team member must be present throughout the 12-hour stretch. The day's itinerary includes the Survivors Lap, when cancer survivors circle the track together; the Luminaria Ceremony, when candles are lit inside sand-filled bags containing the name of a person touched by cancer, and participants often walk a lap in silence after dark; and the Fight Back Ceremony, where a personal commitment is made to save lives by taking up the fight against cancer.
