Reports: Relatives of Hospital Buyers Donate to Ramos; Assemblyman Donates the Money to Charity

Over the last week, Assemblyman Ruben Ramos gave a $5,200 campaign donation to charity.

According to PolitickerNJ, Assemblyman Ruben Ramos gave a $5,200 donation to charity after receiving it from the parents of Vivek Garipalli, who is a member of HUMC Holdco LLC, the buyer of the Hoboken University Medical Center.

An initial story in the Star Ledger, revealed that Laxmipathi and Lakshmi Garipalli each donated $2,600 to Ramos.

Ramos told PolitickerNJ that he gave the money away to charity after he found out who the donors were. According to the same Politicker piece, "Laxmipathi Garipalli pleaded guilty in 2008 to embezzlement of $280,000."

In other news surrounding the sale of the hospital, it was also recently revealed that Gov. Chris Christie allocated an $11 million line item in the budget to for the city to pay off its debt on the $52 million bond obligation.

Ramos voted in favor of Christie's budget, but told PolitickerNJ that he was not aware that the $11 million had to be used to relieve debt.
