Tour Art Studios, Galleries, Take in Free Performances Throughout Hoboken on Sunday

Experience the Hoboken art scene with free performances, live demos, jams, and gallery tours while walking through the Mile Square Sunday.

Sculptors, artisans, photographers and creators of every medium will be on display this Sunday at the Hoboken Artists Studio Tour, a self-guided walk to exhibitions, galleries, and studios throughout the Mile Square.

This citywide art exploration begins at noon and concludes at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9. The Artists Studio Tour will feature more than 100 local artists and group exhibitions. All are invited to wander through dozens of Hoboken’s galleries and studios, free of charge during this exciting event.

Tour-goers can pick up a map at City Hall, located at 94 Washington Street between First and Newark Street, on the day of the tour. A pre-tour reception for featured artist, Lou Cabrone, will be held at the Hoboken Historical Museum on Friday, Nov. 7 from 7 to 10 p.m.

Featured artists include George Sabra, whose sculpture “Plastic Storm” will be featured at City Hall on Nov. 9. The Austin-based sculptor created the 14-foot-high exhibit from reclaimed plastic bottles, cups, jars, and caps gathered by the artist in Austin. The sculpture is mean to symbolize “the plastic waste generated by humans on a daily basis,” Geri Fallo of the City of Hoboken explained.

Several artists on the tour will be holding live demonstrations to showcase their work. Bernadette Micchelli will demonstrate her beadwork jewelry techniques at City Hall. A still life painting demonstration will be held throughout the day at Bill Curran Studio, located at 100 Bloomfield Street. At the Neumann Leather Building on Observer Highway, tour-goers will have the opportunity to try their hand at weaving on a loom.

The tour can be easily accessed from public transportation, just three blocks away on the PATH, New Jersey Transit, NY Waterway Ferries, and Hudson Bergen Lightrail.

“Even though there are many locations, the tour is designed so that you can easily walk from studio to studio, gallery to gallery,” a representative from the City of Hoboken said. “And since Hoboken is only a mile square, every site is convenient to the next. As diverse as the art itself, the tour’s popularity draws artists far beyond the banks of Hoboken.”

Those who participate in the tour will have the opportunity to engage with the artists face to face, learn more about their creative process, and see these talented individuals at work in their own studios. One such opportunity can be found at Aart in America Piano Co. where master piano technician, Aart Markenstien will be hosting a Q&A.

Poets, musicians, and performance artists will also be on hand at a variety of tour locations to add to the ambience of this incredible event.

The Tonal Art Music Center at 47 Harrison Street and Revival Vintage Boutique will each host live musicians all day. Looking to join in the fun? Benson Ridge Project at Skyline Graphics on Adams Street will be hosting an open music jam from 3 to 6 p.m.
