Police blotter.

Consider this fight lost in translation.

On Sunday around 4:30 p.m., Hoboken police arrested two hearing-impaired New Jersey men after the Giants game, police said.

Jason Engle, 31, from Washington and Robert Shauger, 31, from East Hanover were arrested and charged with aggravated assault after they allegedly assaulted two security guards at 1 Republik on Washington Street, according to the police report.

A security guard noticed a fight in the back of the bar, police said, and Engle and Shauger were asked to leave the bar. Later on, the guard saw Shauger walk back inside, according to the report. When the guards tried to stop the men, Shauger allegedly jumped on top of one of the guards and dug his thumb's in the guard's eye sockets, police said. Engle allegedly struck another guard in the face, according to the police report.

Police, however, was unable to communicate to Engle and Shauger that they were under arrest, and a person with knowledge of sign language had to be brought in.

The two who were arrested said—through a translator—that they were only trying to break up a fight, police said.
