Unknown Robber Empties Lockers At Downtown Gym

According to police reports.

Two separate Hoboken men were allegedly robbed of cash and winter coats during their pre-holiday work out, according to police reports on the matter.

On Friday between 12:15 and 1:30 p.m., two different men reported that they had found their lockers unlocked after working out for about half an hour in the downtown location of New York Sports Club, according to police reports. 

A 46-year-old Hoboken resident said his credit cards, $250 in cash and a woolen Banana Republic coat (worth $200) were stolen, according to police.

The victim said he saw a man in the locker room, dressed in baggy pants and a brightly colored tattoo on his arm, according to police. The victim said also that that the man was hanging around the locker room when he left the room to work out, according to the report.

When the 46-year-old returned, he found his locker—which he had closed with a combination lock—closed, but unlocked, police said.

Two charges were made on the victim's credit card at Home Depot, one for $500 and one for $600, police said.

During that same time span another man—27, also from Hoboken—was finishing up a class before he returned to the locker room to find his locker unlocked as well, police said. Missing from the locker was $260 in cash, a Patagonia jacket and his credit cards, according to the report.

As the 27-year-old victim was sitting in the police headquarters to report the theft, a fraud alert came in, notifying a $1,200 charge on the credit card at Home Depot, according to police.

Nobody was arrested and police is still investigating the matter.
