Motorcycle Hit-And-Run Leads To Charges For Westfield Man And Hudson County Man

Two men were charged in a motorcycle hit-and-run that sent a pedestrian to the hospital, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Two men have been charged in connection with a hit-and-run motorcycle crash that left a pedestrian critically injured in Hudson County on Saturday, prosecutors said.

Samuel Collazo, 20, of Westfield was charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle rash resulting in serious body injury and other charges, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Rylan Cook-Figueroa, 20, of West New York was charged with endangering an injured victim and other charges.

Both were arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 21, and are being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending their first court appearances, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said that at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, the West New York Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck by a motorcycle in the area of Bergenline Avenue and 57th Street.

Police found 54-year-old male from Union City with life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center, prosecutors said Thursday.

The occupant(s) of the motorcycle fled on food, prosecutors said.

It was determined that the motorcycle had been reported stolen.

Collazo was identified as the operator of the vehicle and Cook-Figueroa was identified as the rear passenger, prosecutors said.

Collazo was also charged with endangering an injured victim, unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property. Cook-Figureoa was also charged with unlawful taking.

Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the West New York Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
