Son Of Former Chief And 9 Other Police Get Promotions In Hoboken

10 Hoboken police were promoted in a ceremony Tuesday, including the son of a former chief.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Ten Hoboken police officers were promoted in a ceremony Tuesday, with one becoming a captain and two rising to be lieutenants. One of the new lieutenants is the son of a former police chief.

They are:

  • Lt. David Olivera was promoted to the rank of captain.
  • Sgt. Christopher LaBruno and Sgt. Saverio Binetti were promoted to the rank of lieutenant. LaBruno is the son of former Hoboken Police Chief Carmen LaBruno.
  • Detective Michael Losurdo, Police Officer Harold Milne, Detective Christine Collins, Police Officer Anthony Fesken, Detective Anthony Caruso, Detective John Quinones, and Police Officer Daniel Grossi were promoted to the rank of sergeant.

They were promoted at a ceremony at the DeBaun Performing Arts Center at Stevens Insitute of Technology.

“Today, we celebrate the achievements of these HPD officers whose dedication to the safety of our city has been unwavering, and inspiring,” said Mayor Ravi Bhalla. “I look forward to their continued contributions and growing leadership in these new positions.”

“Watching these officers rise up the ranks, makes me confident of their continued commitment to public safety and their community,” said Public Safety Director Kenneth Ferrante. “All of these promotions are well earned."

“This ceremony is a celebration of the hard work and leadership of the ten promoted today, and the entire Hoboken police force,” said Police Chief Steven Aguiar. “I am proud of all ten of these men and women, and I have no doubt they will all excel in these new roles."

Fifteen recently sworn-in officers are currently assigned to field training, and six new hires are currently at the Police Academy to help fill the positions vacated by those promoted today.

The Hoboken Police Department expects to hire another class of officers who will enter the academy early next year, they said.
