Zimmer Expresses Support for Marriage Equality
The mayor urged the governor to sign a bill during her state of the city address on Wednesday.
Mayor Dawn Zimmer expressed her support for the Marriage Equality Act during , urging Gov. Chris Christie to sign the bill into effect.
While the mayor has been a strong proponent of Christie on many of his reforms, and pension and health care reform, Zimmer said she doesn't agree on Christie's point of view on marriage equality.
Earlier this week, Christie said he would veto the bill if it lands on his desk. The governor said also that the matter should be decided in a public referendum in November.

"While I applaud Governor Christie for nominating the first openly gay judge to the state Supreme Court, I strongly urge him to change his mind and sign the Marriage Equality Act when it is passed by the legislature," Zimmer said. "It is simply the right thing to do."

"When I have agreed with the governor ... I have not hesitated to make my voice heard," Zimmer said. "When I do not agree, it is my responsibility to voice my views."
