Bethany Road Reopened After NJ Transit Accident In Hazlet

Bethany Road in Hazlet has reopened after a train-car collision Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported; normal service restored.

HAZLET, NJ — Bethany Road reopened as of 10:05 a.m. Wednesday after a North Jersey Coast Line train and a car collided at the railroad crossing there, police said.

Train service is now back to normal, NJ Transit said.

Bethany Road between Highway 35 and Hazlet Avenue was closed for several hours Wednesday morning.

At approximately 7:32 a.m., North Jersey Coast Line train 3224, which departed Long Branch at 7:10 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station New York at 8:41 a.m., made contact with a motor vehicle at the Bethany Road crossing in Hazlet, an NJ Transit spokesperson said.

No injuries were reported to the approximately 150 customers or the crew on board at the time. No injuries reported in the motor vehicle, NJ Transit said.

Customers from train 3224 were transferred to a following train. New Jersey Transit Police are on scene leading the investigation, said Anjali Hemphill, NJ Transit Senior Public Information Officer.
