Police believe that the bullet might be connected to a call from two months ago about shots fired in the area of the neighborhood behind the school at 10:14 p.m. back on Oct. 7. When police got to the scene, they were unable to find any evidence of shots fired or witnesses who had seen a shooting incident.
The Hazlet Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office have launched a joint investigation into the bullet discovery to ensure that students and the local community were safe.

Parents have no reason to be worried, according to officials.
"At this time, based upon the connection to the October shots-fired call, there does not appear to be any reason for concern to students or local residents, particularly considering the fact that that call came long after school hours had ended," the Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.
Officials are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Hazlet Police Det. Nick Logothetis at 732-264-6565 or Det. Brian Hammarstrom of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau at 800-533-7443.
