Chinese Opera, Calligraphy Events Planned For Holmdel Library
On June 7, the Holmdel Library will offer two programs on Chinese culture in cooperation with the Holmdel Heritage Committee.

HOLMDEL, NJ — The Holmdel Library is the place to be to explore different cultures next Wednesday.
On June 7, visitors can enjoy two Chinese culture and art events earlier in the day, and an International Movie Night that evening, said Chiung-yin Cheng Liu of the Holmdel Heritage Committee.
As an observance of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Holmdel Heritage Committee with the Holmdel Library will present programs focused on Chinese opera and Chinese calligraphy.

Here are the program details:
- Chinese Opera, 11 a.m., presented by Yong-Hong Jia of Renaissance Chinese Opera Society. Jia will transform herself with traditional opera cosmetics and give a short opera performance. This is an open event, meaning no registration is needed.
- Chinese calligraphy and painting, 1:30 p.m., presented by Hua Jiang. The Chinese Opera Society is also presenting this event and will give attendees an opportunity to learn about the art of Chinese calligraphy and learn to write characters. There were five seats left as of Thursday afternoon, and those interested should register at the library website.
Another program scheduled on June 7 is an International Movie Night, this geared to Greek heritage.

Trish Shrodo, the branch manager, said this will be the first of monthly movies geared to celebrations of different heritage months. This is the first collaborated movie event planned between the Holmdel Heritage Committee and Holmdel Library, Liu added.
The movie will start at 6 p.m. in the meeting room of Holmdel Library.
And Liu said it also is a reminder of the upcoming annual Bayshore Greek Festival.
Liu said the Holmdel Heritage Committee encourages residents to attend the 2023 annual Bayshore Greek Festival June 8 to 11 at the Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church in Holmdel. Visit www.greekfestivalholmdel.com for the program schedule.
