The New Jersey Department of Military and Veteran Affairs recognizes towns annually for their efforts to support veterans. The award is given out based on the number of programs and services the town makes available for their veterans, using a point system.
For example, listing a veteran-owned business on municipal websites is worth 10 points and allocating parking spots for Purple Heart recipients and veterans is worth 15 points. When a town reaches 145 points, it can apply for the award

Hazlet mounted a special campaign to honor its veterans called Honor Hazlet Heroes. Nearly 100 colorful banners are on public display at Veterans Park, along Green Acres Drive to the Memorial Circle and throughout the municipal complex.
"We are so proud of this year’s Honor Hazlet Heroes banner display at Veterans Park. Today is a beautiful day to visit the park to see the names and faces of our hometown veterans," Clark said.
The township also put in place courtesy parking for Combat Wounded in municipal lots and provided a veterans resource page on the township website and disabled veteran services at Town Hall.
