Hazlet Cops Nab Beers Street Package Thief: Police

A Hazlet police investigation found evidence that "strongly linked" a Beers Street package theft to a man who was later charged, police said

HAZLET, NJ - A Hazlet police investigation found evidence that “strongly linked” a Beers Street package theft to a man who was later arrested Wednesday, police said.

In the early evening of Aug. 16, Hazlet police responded to a report of a man attempting to steal a package from a doorstep on Beers Street, police said.

Officers Sheehan and Wagner spoke with witnesses and collected information that resulted in the arrest of Wilfredo Echevarria, 41.

Echevarria was charged with theft, hindering apprehension, disorderly conduct, and several contempt of court warrants.

Echevarria was processed, charged and transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, where he is being held pending a future court date.

“Officers Conner Sheehan and Joshua Wagner's quick action exemplifies the commitment of the Hazlet Township Police Department to protecting our residents and maintaining public safety,” Chief Ted Wittke said in a statement. “We will continue to work diligently to create a secure environment for all."
