Hazlet To Hold Halloween Contests

The Hazlet Recreation Department will hold a costume and pumpkin decorating contest on Halloween.

The costume contest will have various categories for children, groups and pets.

The event will be held on Oct. 31, rain or shine at Veterans Memorial Park on Union Avenue.

The costume contest begins at noon; entries for the pumpkin contest will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Cullen Center.

Costume Contest

Age Groups: 1- to 3-year-olds; 4- to 6-year-olds; 7- to 9-year-olds; 10- to 14-year-olds

Categories:

  • Scariest
  • Funniest
  • Most Creative
  • Classical

Best in Show – Pets

Best Group - minimum of three people

Pumpkin Carving/Decorating Contest Rules:

  • “The entry must be a pumpkin or a member of the pumpkin family. All entries must be completed at home and brought to the Cullen Center. All entries must have the participants name written on the back of the pumpkin.
  • “Pumpkins may be carved or hollowed out. You may cut designs into the pumpkins surface.
  • “Pumpkins may not be larger than 2 foot round.
  • ”Objects, paper and materials of any kind may be pinned or glued to pumpkins. Participants may also draw or paint on their entries, cut designs into their surfaces or dress them up.
  • “Battery operated electrical device are OK, absolutely no open flame or electrical cords.
  • “Only one entry per participant.
  • “Each entry must have a title.
  • “The entries will be judged on Originality, Creativity, and Quality.”
