Hazlet Officers Put Down Their Razors In November To Raise Money

HAZLET, NJ — Hazlet police officers gave their razors a break during November to raise money for charity.
For the past few years, the department has participated in No Shave November, an annual charity month-long event where men don't shave or cut their facial hair as a way to raise money for a good cause.
A total of 20 officers participated in the event, each pledging to donate at least $100 dollars to the Movember Foundation, an organization that focuses on Men’s physical health, as well as their mental well-being.

"The guys enjoy growing out their facial hair, it gives them a little less to do in the morning before a shift," officer Charleigh Logothetis told Patch. "I also believe they have fun turning their monthly growth into mustaches at the end of the month when they are required to return to policy standards."
Hazlet police officers usually have to abide by a pretty strict grooming policy, which doesn't allow them to grow a beard.

"A clean shaven appearance is required except that mustaches and neatly trimmed goatees are permitted. Mustaches shall be neatly trimmed and shall not extend more than half inch below or to the sides of the corner of the mouth," the policy reads.
Other police departments in Monmouth County also participated in the No Chave November initiative, including Red Bank's and Marlboro's.
"For the moral point of it it was great because everyone is so excited, they're gonna grow their beards," said Red Bank PBA President Michael Padlock. "The overall final goal is to raise money for families in need."
