Learn How To Shear Sheep, Herd Collies & More At County Park System Event

Historic Longstreet Farm will host their "Wool Days" sheep shearing event at the end of April. See details:

HOLMDEL, NJ — Ever wonder how fleece is removed from sheep? This spring, you can watch a sheep shearing demonstration live at Historic Longstreet Farm’s “Wool Days” event.

From 12-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, the Monmouth County Park System will host the event at Historic Longstreet Farm.

At the event, farm staff will use traditional blade shearing techniques to remove the fleece from their sheep.

In addition to the sheep shearing, Gene Sheninger and his collies will also be visiting the farm and will give herding demonstrations.

For those who want to take a trip around the farm for the event, you can also check out the Historic Holmes Hendrickson House, which was built in 1754 and furnished to reflect the status of a successful farming family around 1775.

The Monmouth County Historical Association will be on hand to provide carding, spinning, and weaving demonstrations, and the park system will provide shuttles between the two sites.
