HOLMDEL, NJ — A new superintendent has been found for Holmdel Township Public Schools, the Board of Education announced Thursday, as the interim superintendent steps down from his post.

The new name will only be known in January after the board's organization meeting because of a notice provision in the candidate’s current contract, the district said in a statement. That person is expected to start in April.

Interim superintendent Dr. LeRoy Seitz's resignation, citing personal reasons, was announced during the last Board of Education meeting on Wednesday.

"Dr. Seitz stepped into this interim role at the beginning stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and proceeded to lead this District through one of the most difficult times in its history," said board president Vicky Flynn. "Due to Dr. Setz’s strong, experienced leadership during these difficult times, we were able to provide our students with the safest, highest-quality educational experience possible and with the least amount of learning loss."

During the meeting, many board members echoed Flynn's sentiment.

"I'd like to thank Dr. Seitz for being so goal-directed and making sure that our schools were open last year during the height of the pandemic," said Elizabeth Urbanski.

For the time being, business administrator and board secretary Michael Petrizzo will take over Dr. Seitz's responsibilities as administrator in charge effectively immediately, continuing through Jan. 5, 2022.

The district announced in October the hiring of consulting firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) for the search of the a new superintendent.

Seitz was appointed last year shortly after Robert McGarry resigned from the post in May 2020.
