Holmdel Municipal Court Moves To Renovated Colts Neck Location

HOLMDEL, NJ — Holmdel Municipal Court is now in its new location in the Colts Neck Township Municipal Complex, as part of the two townships' shared services agreement.

At the recent Township Committee meeting, Mayor DJ Luccarelli said the shared services plan has been a big cost-saver for the township, particularly during a large decrease in revenues during the COVID pandemic. There was a proposal made two years ago for the shared services agreement.

"But we will keep a close eye to monitor how this is working for the police department and other services that have to commute there," he said at the meeting.

The mayor said he hopes to get a monthly report to see if the township's "expectations are being met," also getting input from the Holmdel police chief and municipal judge.

The estimated savings for 2023 for having a shared services agreement with Colts Neck for the court is approximately $171,000, based on historic staffing levels, said Deputy Clerk Brian O'Malley, also the Holmdel public information officer.

The majority of the savings are the result of sharing the personnel costs with Colts Neck Township, he added.

Holmdel will pay Colts Neck Township $235,000 in 2023 for operating Holmdel's court.

Although anyone appearing in court or needing to go to the court office will have to go to Colts Neck, a good portion of the transactions are now able to be completed online, he noted.

A major rebuilding project of the Colts Neck Municipal Complex is almost complete and so enabled Holmdel's Municipal Court operations to move there now.

As of Oct. 1, 2021, Holmdel entered into a shared services agreement with the Colts Neck Township Municipal Court. While municipal offices in Colts Neck were being renovated, the shared operation was in Holmdel, it was stated at the meeting.
