Holmdel Police Lieutenant Retires After 31 Years Of Service
During a ceremony held on Aug. 1, Lt. Vincent Imperato was honored by township officials, coworkers and more for his years of service.
HOLMDEL, NJ — After 31 years of service to the Holmdel Township community, Holmdel Police Lieutenant Vincent Imperato retired on Aug. 1, the Holmdel Township Police Department said.
From a young age, Imperato was interested in law enforcement and first joined the Holmdel Township Police Explorer Program at 15 years old.
In 1992, he went on to become a dispatcher for the Hazlet Township Police Department before dispatching in Holmdel Township in 1994, at which time he also served as a Special II for Holmdel.

After graduating from the 199th Municipal Class at the NJ State Police Academy in 1999, he was sworn in as a patrolman in Holmdel before being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2005 and being assigned to the Patrol Division.
From 2016-2018, Imperato supervised the Traffic Safety & Crime Prevention Unit, and between 2019 and 2021, he was assigned to the Policy & Training Unit as part of the Accreditation Team, where he assisted in achieving the department’s first-ever accreditation in 2021.

After being promoted to lieutenant in 2022, Imperato was then assigned to the Support Services Division. As Commander of Support Services, he worked with the township’s IT Department and managed camera and radio systems, which were vital to daily operations.
Recently, he was even assigned as the Department Evidence Custodian, which required him to spend numerous hours auditing, organizing and updating, department officials said.
Alongside his police work, Imperato has also served as a volunteer with the Hazlet First Aid Squad and the Hazlet Fire Company for over a decade.
Throughout his career, he has held various positions such as Head Explorer Advisor, Field Training Officer, First Aid & CPR Instructor, Applicant Background Investigator and OPRA coordinator. He has also received numerous awards, including:
- Three “Mothers Against Drunk Driving DWI Awards”
- 14 Letters of Commendation
- Officer of the Year
- Three “Lifesaving Awards”
- A Distinguished Service Award
- A Department Citation
During his retirement ceremony on Aug. 1, Mayor Brian Foster presented Imperato with a Township Proclamation, which honors his years of service to Holmdel Township.
Police Chief Frank Allocco also presented Imperato with an Honorable Discharge and thanked him for all he has done to advance the Holmdel Township Police Department forward.

“We wish Vinnie and his wife, Eileen, good luck in their next adventure,” the department said in an online post. “Thank you, Vinnie, for your years of dedicated service to the community. Congratulations!”
