Holmdel Police Looking For Volunteers For Domestic Violence Team

The mandatory 40-hour long training for new recruits will happen between Oct. 5 and 28.

HOLMDEL, NJ — The Holmdel Township Police Department is recruiting volunteers to join the Domestic Violence Response Team, ahead of a training course in October.

The mandatory training for new volunteers is 40 hours long and will happen from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from Oct. 5 to 28.

There are a few requirements to join the team. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, have access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.

They also have to be willing to serve on an on-call shift basis, participate in an interview process, pass background investigations and fingerprinting, successfully complete the mandatory training, and attend a monthly supervisory meeting.

Being bi-lingual is helpful, but prior knowledge of domestic violence is not required.

The training is being conducted by 180 Turning Lives Around, a private non-profit organization in Monmouth County that provides confidential support and advocacy to victims of domestic violence in the aftermath of a highly emotional and traumatic experience.

The free and confidential service of its Domestic Violence Response Team program is available for victims of domestic violence, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, at police departments in Monmouth County.
