Holmdel Police Warns Residents About Recent SMS Scam
Messages will have instructions to follow via a link that, when clicked, directs users to a spoofed MyMVC website.
HOLMDEL, NJ — New Jersey residents have recently been getting scam texts claiming to be from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, according to the Holmdel Township Police Department.
Messages will have instructions to follow via a link that, when clicked, directs users to a spoofed website impersonating New Jersey’s MyMVC site.
In a statement posted Tuesday, Holmdel police exemplified the type of messages that have been reported: "Please update your Driver License to date, this was instructed by the Motor Vehicle Commission of the New Jersey, please click here [link] to get started now."

The New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell has received several reports related to this SMS phishing (smishing) campaign, officials said.
The organization recommends users navigate directly to websites using known, legitimate URLs and refrain from clicking links delivered in text messages.
