Hydrant Work In Holmdel May Affect Water Pressure, Utility Says

New Jersey American Water Co. says routine hydrant maintenance in Holmdel will continue through Aug. 4; may discolor water, reduce pressure.

HOLMDEL, NJ — New Jersey American Water Co. crews began routine hydrant inspections of the water distribution system in the township on Wednesday, continuing through Aug. 4.

Inspection of the hydrants will be performed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The inspections check that hydrants are functioning properly.

When crews are working in an area, residents may notice reduced pressure or discolored water, the company says.

If your water is discolored, run the cold water taps only, at the lowest level of the house for about three to five minutes until the water runs clear. If discolored water occurs, don't wash laundry during that time.

For more information and to see a map of the affected area, you can go to NewJerseyamwater.com and select "Alerts," but a check of recent alerts shows none affect the Holmdel area. The company asks that residents not approach crews while they are working.
