Keyport Police Officer Hit, Dragged While Stopping Car Burglary

This happened New Year's Day: A man trying to steal a catalytic converter dragged the officer with a car while fleeing, police said.

KEYPORT, NJ — A Keyport police officer was dragged and hit by a car while attempting to prevent a burglar from stealing a catalytic converter on New Year's day, according to the Keyport Police Department.

The officer is ok and recovering, police said.

The incident happened at around 3:24 a.m. on Saturday, when police got a call about the attempted theft.

Police found a man trying to steal the piece and tried to stop him. He struggled with the officer and was able to get into what is believed to be a light gray or silver, older model, four-door sedan.

During the struggle, the car struck and dragged the officer as it was fleeing the scene.
