New Playground Under Construction At Veterans Park In Hazlet
Located across from Town Hall, the new playground will host play structures, a curved slide, an arched climber and more.

HAZLET, NJ — A new playground is officially under construction in Veterans Park.
Located just across from Town Hall, the playground area is currently closed as construction takes place. Once the new playground is complete, kids will be able to return to an entirely new area, featuring play structures, a slide and more.
Hazlet Township first approved the plans for a new community playground at a Township Committee meeting on March 26.

Described by the town as an “adventurous” play area, the new playground aims to replace the well-used structures that once stood in its place.
"As part of current and future park improvements, we are excited to see new playground equipment being installed at Veterans Park this fall," Mayor Michael Sachs said in a previous statement. "The new playground will provide all children with a playground to enjoy and memories for years to come.”

According to Township Administrator Robert Bengivenga Jr., the cost of the new playground is $330,000. Half of that cost is funded by an open space grant, while the rest is from the Township’s Capital Improvement Fund.

Plans for the new playground include a play structure for kids ages 2-5, a play structure for kids ages 5-12, a curved slide, a 16” tunnel, an arched climber, a horizontal ladder, a spinner and more.
A yellow rocker being installed is aiming to promote inclusivity, officials said, as it can accommodate several children at once. The color scheme for the playground mainly features purple, green and yellow.
In addition, officials said the previous rubber mulch will be replaced with a new rubberized falling surface. According to Sachs, parts of the new playground are ADA-approved as well.
The playground was designed by Burke Playgrounds. To see plans for the new playground, you can click here.
