Police: Hunting is Not Approved on Township Property

While hunting is allowed in Thompson and Holmdel parks, and some private properties, it is not allowed on township-owned land.

After receiving calls from several residents, the Holmdel Police Department issued a statement Thursday to remind everyone that hunting is allowed in some county owned parks and on some privately owned properties, but not on township-owned land.

Deer season began earlier this month, and several Monmouth County parks were closed to allow for hunting, including in Holmdel and Thompson parks.

The alert states that while hunting season is in full swing, there is no approved hunting on any property owned by the township. But, hunting is allowed in some Monmouth County parks, Holmdel Park (including the new Ramenessin section), and Thompson Park, in Holmdel, under strict, county-enforced guidelines.

In addition, according to township rules, any resident who has a minimum of five acres of land may allow hunting on their property. However, the hunter must have that permission in writing, and on his person, at the time he is actively hunting. Under State Law, bow hunting is not allowed within 150 feet of any structure, and hunting with shotguns is not allowed within 450 feet of structures.

The Holmdel Police strictly enforce hunting regulations, and anyone witnessing any violation should notify the Police Department immediately. A copy of this message can be found on the Holmdel Police website at http://www.holmdelpolice.org under the "Happening Now" section.
