HOLMDEL, NJ — A proposal to build a Chabad Jewish Center is set to return to the Holmdel Planning Board in July.

The proposed center, which would be built on Holmdel Road, would consist of a 15,053 square-foot house of worship building along with a 5,129 SF parsonage/Rabbi’s residence and related site improvements.

The project applicant, the Chabad Jewish Center of BCC, is seeking a preliminary and final major site plan approval from the town after going before the Planning Board in December.

During the December meeting, residents voiced concerns about water and sewer management at the site, tax exemptions, and raised questions such as how many people would be expected at the center throughout the week.

Rabbi Shmaya Galperin, who leads the Chabad Jewish Center of Holmdel, said that by opening the proposed center on Holmdel Road, the center will be able to consolidate its programs (which are currently offered across venues such as Bell Works and the Holmdel Senior Center) and bring them all to one location.
