RHS Cheer Squad Looks to Younger Generation

Two cheer camps open to boys and girls are set for January.

The Raritan High School Cheerleading Team is looking for a few kids with spirit!

RHS cheer will be holding two buddy camps in January, and it doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced cheerleader, or a newcomer, a boy a girl, all are welcome.

“We want to promote and help the girls who have never come out for anything before, and even girls in grades 5 and 6 grade, if never cheered before, to come out and learn,” said Toni L. Tomasiello, one of the camp’s organizers.

The camp isn’t only an opportunity to learn new stunts and cheers, but for younger kids to learn from enthusiastic older students who want to help youngsters explore their sport. Each RHS cheerleader will have two to three buddies, kids ill get a T-shirt, a photo, learn new stunts and tricks, and get a chance to show off their hard work half time at an RHS basketball game.

The K through 4 camp will be held Monday, Jan. 27 from 4:45 to 7:30 p.m. at Lillian Drive School in Hazlet. Campers will perform the next evening, Tuesday, Jan.28, during half time at the Raritan High School Boys Varsity basketball game.

The 5 through 8 camp will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Lillian Drive School. Campers perform the next evening, Thursday, Jan. 23, during half time at the Raritan High School Boys Varsity basketball game.

“Raritan High School cheerleaders have a lot of heart and want to give back to the little ones.,” said Tomasiello.

“We want to promote and help the girls who have never come out for anything before, and even girls in 5th and 6th grade, if they’ve never cheered before, this is a way for them to learn because not a lot of camps out there.”

Tomasiello said she and the RHS cheerleaders are excited about the upcoming camp, even though it’s the first one they’re putting holding. Nevertheless, the RHS girls are ready to get to work.

“They like to perform, and all of our Raritan cheerleaders have younger siblings and it’s something they wanted to do as well,” she said. “This is the first time we’re running this, and we don’t know what to expect. Nut main purpose is to have the girls come away having a good time, and the RHS girls are excited to be with their buddy.”
