"Talk Saves Lives" Suicide Prevention Zoom Held Live Jan. 14th in Response to Suicide Increase

Event Details
Join the Howell Alliance virtually on Wednesday, January 14th from 6 to 7 p.m. for “Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention” from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Register ahead for this live event here: https://bit.ly/TSLjan14. Attendance is not limited to Howell residents.
“Talk Saves Lives” participants will learn the common risk factors for suicide, how to spot the warning signs in others, and practical examples of how to engage in critical conversations about the topic and connect to crisis and support resources.
The Howell Alliance is hosting this “Talk Saves Lives” Zoom in response to the increase in suicide deaths and attempts in the Howell community this year. As of 12-3-25, Howell Township experienced 6 suicide deaths and 78 suicide threats and attempts in 2025—triple the number of suicide deaths in 2023 and 2024.
Howell is not alone. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Data & Statistics Fatal Injury Report for 2023, suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the U.S., with 49,316 deaths by suicide and 1.5 million suicide attempts occurring in the U.S. in 2023. Suicide has increased overall in the U.S. over the past several decades and affects all age groups and demographics.
