146 Livingston Students Earn High Scores on National Spanish Exam

Seven Livingston students also ranked in the top three positions in their levels in the state on the national exam.

Nearly 150 Livingston High School students were recognized Monday by the Board of Education for earning high scores on the National Spanish Exam. 

A total of 146 Livingston students earned either an award or honorable mention on the national exam, which more than 152,700 students took this year. Livingston students carried home 30 gold, 44 silver, and 32 bronze medals and received 40 honorable mentions. 

Students were instructed and coached for the National Spanish Exam by Gisela Gugger, Barbara Kaplan, Ivette Morano, Carmen Michael, and Susana Fernández-Poyatos.

In addition, seven students received monetary awards from the New Jersey chapter for their ranking in the top three positions in their levels in the state. These students were: 

  • 1st Place: Hoi Kwan
  • 2nd Place: Rebecca Lin, Ana San Jose Guiote, and Camila Correa
  • 3rd Place: Matthew Cohen, Justin Gelman, and Eugenia Saeigh

Level 2 Gold winners are: Hoi Kwan (1st in state), Rebecca Lin (2nd in state), Matthew Cohen (3rd in state), Justin Gelman (3rd in state), Jeanna Qiu (6th in state), Melinda Hu (7th in state), Sara Fogarty (8th in State), Danielle Lee (10th in state), Diana Altman, Rebecca Cooper, Jessica Prague, Lorraine Rocha, Forest Song, Omri Winkler, Catherine Yang, Adam Chang, Nikita Maheshwari, and Patrick Wolfe. 

Level 2 Silver winners are: Sydney Becker, Sam Farber, Lara Goldstein, Gabrielle Gross, Jacob Langberg, Anching Lien, Rebecca Miller, Ian Yeung, Chelsea Dyapa, Jessie Korovin, Noah Lebovitz, Jessica Li, Alexandra Libson, Shaima Parveen, Samuel Rudy, Rohan Sampat, Jack Spiegler, Robert Towey, and Trevor Wood.

Level 2 Bronze Winners are: Jesse Del Buono, Bradford Disler, Alexandra Royce, Brett Sass, Jack Wasserman, Julie Kane, Will Kitson, Kuran Malhotra, Garrett Meinhardt, Samantha Napolitano, Elaine Vernoff, Eric Volpe, Jocelyn Wang, and Chloe Zheng.

Level 3 Gold winners are: Gabrielle Tartakovsky (8th in state), Aidan Kelly, Justin Melnick, Andrew Berger, Amanda Glatt, Sabrina Gonzalez, and Stephanie Halaban.

Level 3 Silver winners are: Robbie April; Stacey Cohen; Jessica Silverman; Puja Deshpande; Aalin Izhar; Jane Khin; Jessica Yang; and Theresa Zhang.

Level 3 Bronze winners are: Benjamin Brown; Matthew Brown; Kerry Zak; Evan Zou; Jordyn Salm; and Annie Yao.

Level 4 Gold winner, Brian Lee is 9th in state.

Level 4 Bilingual category, Ana San Jose Guiote is 2nd in the state. 

Level 4 Silver winners are: Alexa Altchek, Matthew Brennan, Nitay Capsi, Derek Del Buono, Nina Feinberg, Matthew Levey, Marissa Parnes, Ankush Rakhit, Jay Schaefer, Christopher Tsang, Wu Grant.

Level 4 Bronze winners are: Layla Behrouzian, Jenna Davis, Josh Kaltman, Michael Kim, Joseph Lilien, Grace Ming, Kevin Tam, Rebecca Montero, and Lucas Ochoa.

Level 5 Gold winner, Lucas Ferraz is also ranked 5th in the state.

Level 5 Bilingual Category, Camila Correa is ranked 2nd in state, and Eugenia Saeigh is ranked 3rd in the state.

Level 5 Silver Winners are: Alex Dashman, Charlene Francois (7th in state), Ariel Gelman, Kishan Kania, Rebecca Katcher, and Sasmira Matta.

Level 6 Bronze winners are: Lori Shapiro, Lucy Zhou, Spencer Luster; Franz Rivero De La Guarda.
