3 Livingston Events For People With Special Needs And Their Families

Upcoming events include an annual "Shine a Light on Autism Night," a spring party and a talent show.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD) will be sponsoring three upcoming events for people with special needs and their families.

Here are the details about each event, according to a news release from the committee.

SHINE A LIGHT ON AUTISM NIGHT

The LACD will be sponsoring its annual “Shine a Light on Autism Night” on Wednesday, April 23.

This special free event will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gazebo at the Oval, Robert Harp Drive in Livingston. There is a rain date of Thursday, April 24 at the same time and place as the scheduled event. Our guest speakers will include Mayor Ed Meinhardt, a representative from Autism New Jersey, Livingston police officers, a board of education member, and a group of Livingston public school students. We will be turning the Oval blue for autism awareness. We invite you to show your autism awareness support by wearing blue and taking a lap around the Oval with us. You may purchase autism awareness merchandise at the event, with the proceeds going to Autism New Jersey. Free drinks and snacks will be provided, as well as deejay music and balloon arts. We suggest you bring your lawn chairs and blue lanterns or lights.

SPRING PARTY

The LACD, the Livingston Kiwanis Club and the Recreation and Senior Services Department (formerly known as SYLS) will co-sponsor a spring party for children and adults with special needs and their families.

This free, fun-filled event will take place at the Livingston Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Avenue on Saturday, May 3 from noon to 2 p.m. Our guests will be treated to food, beverages, dancing to a deejay's music, and an arts and crafts program. We kindly ask that everyone bring a dessert.

TALENT SHOW

The LACD is bringing back its annual talent show for children and adults with special needs on Thursday, May 8.

This free of charge event will take place in room T3 at the Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Avenue in Livingston, and will begin at 7 p.m.

We welcome our special needs population to showcase their individual talents and shine in the spotlight. Come sing along to your favorite songs, dance to the tunes you love, or perform a magic trick. We invite you to share with us any of the special abilities that you have. Free snacks and drinks will be provided and all participants will receive a gift.
