Essex County College Names New Chief Compliance Officer

Jersey City resident Afshan T. Ajmiri Giner will work closely with the College's General Counsel to provide legal support.

Afshan T. Ajmiri Giner, a Jersey City resident, is Essex County College’s new Chief Compliance Officer and Special Counsel. She comes to the College after working in both the private and public sectors.

“I’ve always been interested in higher education, and my career has been focused on education law. My role at ECC is ensuring that the College’s operations, functions, and initiatives comply with the relevant laws and regulations,” she said. Ms. Ajmiri Giner added she will work closely with the College’s General Counsel to provide legal support.

“I will work collaboratively with the College and its stakeholders to help fulfill ECC’s mission,” she said.

“I am truly excited to welcome Afshan, a seasoned education professional, to the Office of General Counsel. I have no doubt her wealth of compliance and legal knowledge is going to greatly benefit the College,” said ECC General Counsel Christine A. Soto.

Previously, she worked at her own consulting practice and was a Partner at a law firm in New Jersey. She also had worked as a Legal and Regulatory Affairs Officer for the New Jersey Department of Education.

She earned her undergraduate degree in International Relations from Brown University and her law degree from the Rutgers School of Law, Newark.
