The History of the White House, America’s Executive Mansion
It took eight years to build, was burned down, nearly fell down, was almost painted black, and has grown in every direction, but still looks the same. Enjoy a tour through time in America's First Mansion.

For 30 years Pat Wells was a nuclear medicine technologist and instructor. Upon retiring, she became active in the Chatham Township Historical Society and took courses at Drew University's Historic Preservation Program. She is now an amateur historian and architecture geek. She loves to research and share our history. Pat has presented numerous lectures on a wide variety of subjects.
The Livingston Historical Society was established in 1963 and aims to foster a wide appreciation of the development of our community from its earliest days. We strive to discover, collect, preserve, publish and exhibit materials illustrating the history of the area. The Society has restored and maintains the Force Homestead Museum, which includes the Force Home and the Cookhouse/Former Slave Cabin. In 1983 the Livingston Historical Society was named Trustee of the Ely Cemetery by the Superior Court of New Jersey.
The Livingston Historical Society usually meets the fourth Monday of the month September through April at the Livingston Senior Community Center. More information about meeting dates can be found at https://LivingstonNJHistoricalSociety.weebly.com/. For questions, email LivingstonHistoricalSociety@gmail.com or call 973-992-5855.
Members of the community are welcome to attend for free; however, monetary donations to the Historical Society are greatly appreciated.
