Woman Tried To Pass Phony Check At Livingston Bank: Police

A woman was arrested after she allegedly tried to pass a fraudulent check at a bank in Livingston, authorities said.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — A woman was arrested after she allegedly tried to pass a phony check at a bank in Livingston last week, authorities said Tuesday.

The Livingston Police Department released the following details about the incident, which took place on Feb. 20:

“At 12:28 p.m., Livingston officers responded to the Columbia Bank located at 270 South Livingston Avenue on a report of a suspect attempting to pass a fraudulent check. Upon officers’ arrival, they located the suspect, Melissa Maxie, 44, of Pitman. Maxie attempted to pass a fraudulent check using a fraudulent driver’s license. She was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters where she was charged with falsifying a government document, possession of a false ID and possession of fraudulent credit card.”

Maxie’s charges were placed on a summons and she was released on her own recognizance with a returnable court date at the Essex County Courthouse, Livingston police said.
