'Youth Appreciation Week' In Livingston Will Return For 2024
The weeklong series of events celebrates the kids and teens of Livingston. Here's what is on the schedule this year.

This year marks the 28th Year Anniversary of Livingston’s Youth Appreciation Week. This week-long series of events celebrate Livingston’s youth and recognizes their achievements and contributions to the community.
Healthy Community Healthy Youth Initiative of Livingston, Inc. (HCHY) will chair this event for the sixteenth consecutive year. The week-long celebration returns to September after a successful week last year. Alan Karpas, President of HCHY who chairs the events, stated that “Everyone is excited to return to the celebration for our youth and their families’ day.”

Youth Appreciation Week (YAW) kicks off on Sunday, September 22, and runs through Sunday, September 29, 2024. Most of the events are free, and some require pre-registration. All of the information about the events is available on the township website at livingstonnj.org/YouthAppreciation.
The well-rounded events for families include a Bike Livingston event, LEGO evening, Parent’s Night Out, a Live LTV Show, an evening of Chess for all youth, a Wiffle Ball Tournament, a Movie Under the Stars, and a town-wide campout chaired by the Scouts Troop and Packs 12 and 16. The week of events culminates with a Family Fun Festival at Memorial Oval, Robert H. Harp Drive, on Sunday, September 29, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“This year, the Family Fun Festival will be a part of the Livingston Police Department’s Community Block Party, and we’re delighted with this partnership. Additionally, the Livingston Fire Department and First Aid Squad Open House will move from their original date in October in order to also be a part of the Block Party,” added Karpas.

Livingston PD Community Block Party
The Livingston Police Department’s Community Block Party will occur simultaneously alongside the YAW Family Fun Festival at Memorial Oval, Robert H. Harp Drive, on Sunday, September 29, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The free, family-friendly Community Block Party will include food and soft drinks, rides, carnival games, giveaways, balloon twisting, face painting, music, law enforcement displays, safety/security demonstrations, and children’s activities.
The Livingston Police Department is anticipating a large law enforcement participation in this event. There will be several municipal and campus agencies represented, as well as the NJ Department of Corrections, NJ State Police Marine Unit with a boat display, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), police vehicles, helicopter landings, K9 units, and Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stevens, in addition to an appearance by McGruff the Crime Dog. The event is meant to foster stronger ties between neighbors and law enforcement, building a true sense of community.
There will also be displays from various local organizations and businesses. Any organization or local business can have a free display table at the event. Fire Department & First Aid Squad Open House
The Livingston Fire Department’s Open House will occur at Memorial Oval, Robert H. Harp Drive, on Sunday, September 29, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Livingston First Aid Squad will also participate in this event, which will be part of the Livingston Police Department’s Community Block Party.
The free, family-friendly Open House will include fire trucks and vehicles, a motor vehicle accident extrication demonstration, and displays by the Fire Department. There will also be a rubber duck water slide station with a chance to win raffle prizes.
All ages are welcome. All donations collected will benefit The Burn Center at Cooperman Barnabas.

Parking for all three events is available at 357 S. Livingston Avenue, 30 Robert H Harp Drive, and on Madonna Drive & Wahler Road.
