Bird Monitors Needed At Seven Presidents Park In Long Branch

Monitors are needed to check on nesting sites of piping plovers, oystercatchers and terns at the park

LONG BRANCH— Want to help protect the nests of endangered shorebirds at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park?

Then come to a training workshop at the park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 6. Christine Davis and Pam Prichard of the state Division of Fish and Wildlife will be on hand to show you how to monitor the nesting sites of least terns, piping plovers and oystercatchers.

The park is located at Ocean Avenue in Long Branch.

Volunteers that complete the training are invited to help monitor the birds over the summer and educate the visitors so that the nesting areas remain protected. Monitors are especially needed during peak summer days and special events such as the Fourth of July, according to the Monmouth County Park system.
