Chick-fil-A Ends Support of Anti-Gay Orgs

Just two months after a perceived bigoted comment from Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy prompted protests and demonstrations from civil rights activists and conservative chicken fans around the country, the fast food chain has committed to cutting funding to organizations that promote anti-gay legislation.

According to a release posted on the Joint Civil Rights Agenda website, the chicken shop, with more than 1,600 restaurants around the country, distributed an internal memo stating that the company will no longer give money to anti-gay organizations that they the company will treat every person equally, regardless of sexual orientation.

In a July interview, Cathy told a reporter that he supported the biblical definition of marriage, meaning between a man and a woman only. That and other comments led to calls to boycott the fast food eatery as much famous for its chicken as its public religious beliefs. 

Officials across the country stepped forward to denounce Chick-fil-A, abd tell diners to ditch the chicken shop, which has a location at the Monmouth Mall in favor of inclusivity and the borough's restaurants. 

According to the CRA, the WinShape Foundation, which is run by Chick-fil-A, has donated millions of dollars to anti-LGBT groups. The fast food company reconsidered that stance and said that WinShape will not only take a closer look at the organizations is supports, but will stay true to a philosophy of not supporting organizations with political agendas.
