LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Long Branch City Council introduced its municipal budget for 2021 at Wednesday night’s meeting, which includes a five-cent decrease in the municipal tax rate and an overall tax rate decrease of nine cents.

"Over 70 percent of homeowners will see either a reduction in the actual property taxes they pay or will not have an increase this year," Mayor Pallone stated in a statement.

"The city's tax rate decreased by about five cents, and the library, school, and county also contributed to an overall tax rate decrease of nine cents.”

Despite the lower tax rates, municipal projects like a new community pool and an arts and culture center will be opening this year. Other projects, including city-wide road paving and reconstruction and the building of a new beachfront public safety pavilion, are projected for this year.

"While we continue to maintain and increase the municipal services here in our city, the value of city properties, including homes and businesses, continues to go up. Long Branch is becoming an even more desirable location for new residents to move to," City Council President Mario Vieira said in a statement.
