Man Hit, Killed By Car As He Crossed Rt. 36 In Long Branch

A 74-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Monday evening in Long Branch.

LONG BRANCH, NJ — A pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Monday evening in Long Branch, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced Friday.

He was hit by a car while attempting to cross Rt. 36 at Branchport Avenue, said police. This was at 6:17 p.m. Monday.

He was attempting to walk across Rt. 36 from the southbound to the northbound side of traffic when he was struck by a BMW SUV occurred. The driver of the SUV, a man, remained at the scene and at this time, no charges or summonses have been issued.

The pedestrian, later identified as Fernando Pinho, 74, was rushed to Monmouth Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased at 8:58 p.m.
