Two Ocean Township Men Badly Burned In Fire Pit Explosion

One man was flown to St. Barnabas Burn Center, Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.

Two Ocean Township men were badly burned in a recent explosion that started in a fire pit in the woods between Fairway Lane and Weston Avenue, police said.

Police responded to call about a fire in the woods at 6:22 p.m. on Jan. 26. When they arrived, they learned the fire began in the pit when two 18-year-old men used gasoline to start the blaze. The gasoline exploded and burned both men, according to the police report.

One of the men was badly burned on his face, chest and hands. He was treated at the scene by the Wanamassa First Aid Squad and then flow to the burn center at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingstone. The other men was take to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for more treatment, police said.
