Alleged Credit Card Thief Caught Red-Handed at Target, Cops Say

Police were at the store investigating suspect's previous actions when man returned to store to commit more alleged crimes, police report.

A New York man being investigated for allegedly using stolen credit cards to purchase gift cards at the Washington Township Target Department Store to do more of the same this week, but it just so happened a police officer was already there.

On Oct. 5, Detective Cpl. Brian Bigham was conducting a follow up investigation at the store regarding the use of fraudulent credit cards, with Rudney Zephirin, 25, as a primary suspect, Lt. Doug Compton said.

While Bigham was at the store conducting the investigation, Zephirin entered the business and proceeded to allegedly purchase hundreds of dollars in Target gift cards using fraudulent credit cards, Compton said.

Zephirin was arrested and taken to Washington Township Police headquarters where he was charged with fraudulent use of credit cards, theft of credit cards, and identity theft.
