LONG VALLEY, NJ β€” October is here, which can only mean one thing: Halloween is coming.

In Long Valley, there are a variety of ways to celebrate and prepare for the impending holiday.

Once again, Washington Township Recreation is looking for a list of Halloween yard haunts that will make people stop, stare and maybe even scream. They are also interested in kid-friendly, whimsical Halloween-decorated yards.

"The change of Seasons is always welcomed here in Washington Township. As we travel through the hills of the valley and 'fall' into the season after summer, pumpkins begin to pop up everywhere! It doesn’t take long before one notices all the homes and yards displayed for Halloween. From the scariest to the funniest detail," the recreation department said.

The township is asking that the community get involved and nominate their favorite decorated Halloween residence.

Long Valley's own Ort Farms has also planned special community events throughout the fall, such as the annual Boo Bash, which is planned for Oct. 28 and Oct. 29.

Boo Bash will include a trick-or-treat trail. Participants should come in costume since many community groups and vendors will pass out candy.

Jay Johnston and the Honkytonk Scoundrels, and The Green Planet Band will both provide live music on Oct. 28, while John Lepre and Flexible Flyers will perform on Oct. 29.

For adults, Jersey Girl Brewery will have cold beer on tap. Food vendors include Smokin Schmidty's, Marley's Wings and Things, Let's Have A Ball, Maize Arepa, A Taco Affair, The Brew Crew, Jersey Curbside Eats and The Empanada Guy.

Currently, Ort Farms has opened up its five acres of apple orchards, which include many varieties, including fan favorites like Gala and Honey Crisp.
