Ex-Treasurer Charged With Stealing From NJ Football Booster Club

The former treasurer of a North Jersey football booster club has been charged in connection with a theft investigation, authorities said.

MOUNT OLIVE, NJ - The former treasurer of a North Jersey football booster club has been charged in connection with a theft investigation, authorities said.

Shawn J. Collins, 49, the former treasurer of the Mount Olive Township Junior Marauder Football Association booster club, was charged with third-degree theft after an investigation found he made unauthorized withdrawals of money from the booster club’s bank account, as well as failed to deposit money collected from concession sales and events, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Morris County Chief of Detectives Christopher K. Kimker, and Mount Olive Township Police Chief Stephen Beecher said in a joint statement.

According to an investigation launched by local authorities in October, the total amount of monies stolen was found to be approximately $74,000, Carroll, Kimker and Beecher said.

Collins was arrested and charged on a summons complaint. He was released pending a court appearance, authorities said.
