According to the Prosecutor's Office, an early investigation indicated that Angst had fraudulently represented his painting business to a client as being insured and that the client had inadvertently submitted fake documents to an insurance carrier.
Angst was also an officer with the Montclair University Police Department at the time of the scheme, and it is also alleged that he gave McFadden a gold Police Benevolent Association card in exchange for the documents, according to investigators.
Angst has since been charged with insurance fraud, forgery, falsifying and tampering with records, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and failure to provide workerβs compensation. McFadden was charged last week by summons with insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, falsifying records, forgery and hindering.
