Unmarked Toy Gun Seized After Boy, 12, Pointed 'Weapon' At Car: Cops

Pre-teen was wearing a ski mask and may be charged, police report.

A 12-year-old boy is being investigated Saturday after police say he pointed an assault rifle-style toy gun at a passing car in northern New Jersey, Mansfield Township Police said.

Police were dispatched to the area of Mansfield Village Apartment Complex for a report of a male wearing a ski mask and pointing an assault rifle at a passing motorist, police said.

Police from Hackettstown, Mansfield Township, Washington Township (Morris County), and the New Jersey State Police searched the area. Officers later found the boy in an apartment who admitted to pointing a toy gun at the motorist, police said.

The toy β€œresembled an assault rifle with a banana style magazine, and did not have an orange tip on the muzzle,” police said.

The gun was not capable of firing a projectile, police said.

The weapon was seized and the matter is currently under review for possible charges, police said. The boy was released to his parents.
