BOE, Teachers Reach Tentative Agreement

Details not finalized until both sides ratify new deal.

UPDATED AT 2:30 p.m.–Madison Board of Education President Lisa Ellis confirmed Thursday there is a signed memorandum of agreement between the BOE and the Madison Education Association, the teachers' union of the Madison Public Schools.

The district has also published a statement on its website regarding the matter. The statement reads:

"The Madison Board of Education and Madison Education Association have reached a tentative settlement on the collective bargaining agreement between the two parties. Details will be available after both sides have ratified the tentative settlement."

In mid-May, the teachers' association announced a wage freeze for this current school year, which will be the first year of the three-year contract.

Both Ellis and Madison Business Administrator Gary Lane said they could not comment further about this year's settlement until it is ratified.
