Chamber Honors Local Best, Scholarship Winners

Annual awards picnic held at Brooklake Country Club featured laughter and admiration.

The Madison Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Picnic at Brooklake Country Club on Wednesday night was highlighted by smiles and awards given to the community's best.

Three graduating seniors from the borough were honored with the Jack Morris Memorial Scholarship. This year's winners are Brian Williams, who will attend The University of Scranton, Ashley Jayne, who will attend Pace University, and Robert Hicks, who will attend The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

All three students will be pursuing a career in business and each will receive $1,000 to help assist with their college goals.

The scholarship is named in memory of Jack Morris of Stewart-Morris Awards & Gifts as a tribute to his commitment to the Chamber and to the Madison community. Morris was a 1948 graduate of Madison High School.

Four Historic Business awards were given out for service and longevity as Madison merchants. Those were awarded to the Chiarolanzio, DeMarco, Luts and Falco families. Each recipient of the award is featured in the photo gallery accompanying this story.

Also given out were the Business Improvement awards. Winners were: Best New Facade, Rob's Bistro; Best New Sign, Plaza Lanes; Best Renovation, Three Rivers Veterinarian Services; Community Service, Friends of Madison Train Station; Best New Building, Drew University's McLendon Hall; and Distinguished Service, Friends of Madison Shade Trees.

Attendees dined while the awards were given out and the Chamber's Board of Directors was announced. A large number of door prizes were also given away.
