Davies Starts Career Strong at Richmond

Former Dodgers' standout was voted Rookie of the Week recently.

Editor's note: This is the first of what will be a weekly notebook, running Wednesdays, detailing the athletic exploits of former Dodgers competing on the collegiate level.

Chelsea Davies is having a great start to her field hockey career with the Richmond Spiders. Davies has three assists and one goal so far in her freshman season, and has played in all 11 games for the 4-7 squad. Davies leads the Spiders in shots taken with 28. The midfielder took two shots in the Spiders' 3-0 victory over Georgetown on Sunday. Impressively, Davies was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Sept. 7, after scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist in a win against Rutgers. She also had an assist on the game-winner vs. Monmouth.

  • Jonathan Aguirre, last year's New Jersey Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year, has played in eight of the Duke Blue Devils' nine games as a true freshman so far this season. The midfielder has one assist and has taken five shots so far, contributing to a team that is currently 4-2-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the Atlantic Coastal Conference. He took two shots in the team's loss to Maryland on Friday.
  • Christa Romano has played in nine of the Quinnipiac field hockey team's games as a freshman this season. Romano, who plays defense, has also started in five of those games, totaling 448 minutes of playing time and two shots.
