Girl, 10, Claims Man Repeatedly Exposed Himself

Madison resident charged with committing lewd acts in Main Street apartment.

A 47-year-old man who lives in a Main Street apartment was arrested Tuesday for allegedly exposing himself multiple times to a 10-year-old girl who has been living at his residence since July, according to an affidavit on file with the Morris County Court. He was charged with lewdness and endangering the welfare of a child.

The girl's mother reported the incidents to the Madison Police Department on Nov. 2, alleging the man exposed himself on a daily basis to her daughter since they moved into the apartment with the man and his family in July.

Patch is withholding the identity of the man to protect the victim and her mother since they have been residing at his apartment.

According to the affidavit, the girl alleges the man began exposing himself at times when the two were alone approximately two weeks after she and her mother had began staying in the man's living room.

The girl also alleges the man would lie on the couch next to her with his entire genitals exposed, the affidavit said.

According to the affidavit, she said he didn't listen when she repeatedly told him to stop.  The girl also said the man never touched her, the affidavit said.

During the summer months, she was left alone at home with the defendant, who was responsible for looking after her. She alleges the incidents happened on a daily basis until she told her mother in September.

The affidavit states the defendant claims his wife informed him of his actions, but that he doesn't remember these incidents occurring. According to the affidavit, the man told police that he believes his wife and if she said he did these actions, then they must be true.

He also told police he did not want to relive the acts, because he would become upset and depressed, the affidavit claims.

The Madison Police Department confirmed the arrest was made on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m., and that bail was set at $100,000 at the Morris County Correctional Facility.

The man is set to appear in court on Dec. 1. The investigation was conducted by Det. John Miscia of the Madison Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes Unit.
