Madison Resident Conducting Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey During Free Concert

The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey invites the public to a free concert in April.

The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey is returning from a concert tour in Italy to host a free concert at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, in Newark, in April.

Madison resident Maestro Robert W. Butts, conductor and founder of the The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey (BONJ), will be conducting the concert on Wednesday, April 1, at the Jim Wise Theater, Kupfrian Hall, on the NJIT campus in Newark. This will be the third time in which the orchestra has presented at NJIT.

“The concert reflects the orchestra’s philosophy of exploring music of all periods and styles, recognizing the importance of presenting the masterpieces of tomorrow along with the masterpieces of the past,” Butts said in a release from BONJ.

Ting Ho’s “Concertino Morning,” commissioned by Andrew Pecota, will be included in the concert’s program, the BONJ said. The second half of the program will include Butts’ first symphony composition, “Symphony No. 1 The Joshua Symphony,” commissioned by the Plaut Family, of Summit, New Jersey. The Plaut Family commissioned the symphony in memory their son, Joshua.
